House music has seen DJs play boats, planes, and even underwater sets. But a rollercoaster? That’s a new one — and it just happened at Six Flags Magic Mountain.
The Setup: A DJ Booth Built Into a Rollercoaster
Producers Odd Mob and Walker & Royce teamed up with vocalist Benni Ola for something wild. Together, they staged what they’re calling the world’s first-ever DJ set performed on a moving rollercoaster. The stunt took place on the Twisted Colossus, a hybrid wood-and-steel coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California. It’s a fitting stage, since the park already chases thrill-ride superlatives.
This wasn’t just a track playing over speakers while the trio rode along. Instead, they built a custom-engineered DJ setup directly into the front two rows of the ride. That meant real equipment and real hands-on mixing. Meanwhile, a live audience of riders felt every drop and airtime hill. They even caught the twin-track “races” that make Twisted Colossus one of the park’s signature attractions. Through it all, a full house set played out in real time.
Why Now: A New Single Drops
The timing wasn’t random. The team built the rollercoaster set to promote “Can’t Say Nah,” the new single from Odd Mob and Walker & Royce featuring Benni Ola. The track leans into a propulsive, chugging house rhythm that mirrors the ride it was filmed on. On top of that, Ola’s vocals give the production a hook that carries well beyond a theme park setting.
Pairing a single’s release with a stunt like this is a familiar move in dance music marketing. Still, the rollercoaster angle pushes it further than the usual rooftop or beach pop-up. It’s a visual hook built to travel on short-form video platforms, and early clips of the performance have already started circulating.
Is It Actually a World First?
Here’s where it’s worth pumping the brakes a little (pun intended). Coverage of the event describes it as a claimed world’s first, not something Guinness World Records has independently verified or ratified. That said, Six Flags Magic Mountain isn’t a stranger to record-chasing. In fact, the park holds several genuine Guinness titles for its rides, including Riddler’s Revenge, which holds records for longest and steepest stand-up coaster. For now, though, there’s no public confirmation that Guinness has formally recognized this specific DJ-set stunt. That could change if the team files an official application, so it’s a detail worth revisiting.
What’s Next for the Artists
The rollercoaster stunt lands during a busy stretch for both acts. Odd Mob has upcoming festival performances lined up at HARD Summer, ARC, and Outside Lands. After that, a headline tour across Australia follows this fall. Meanwhile, Walker & Royce, longtime staples of the West Coast house scene, keep building a catalog known for blending club-ready production with playful, high-concept rollouts. Of all of them, this might be the most literal “thrill ride” yet.
The Bigger Picture
Stunts like this are becoming a go-to strategy for dance music acts. In a crowded single-release cycle, a track alone rarely breaks through. But a track paired with a genuinely insane visual moment has a much better shot at reaching a broader online audience. Either way, the rollercoaster set has already done its job: it’s got people talking, watching, and streaming “Can’t Say Nah.”
